As much as I love dresses and skirts, sometimes on the weekends I just want to comfortable for brunch. I’ve always been the type of person who gravitated towards dressing up, and it look me a long time to nail the “casual chic” look. There are a few pieces that I’ve found to be essential for an easy brunch outfit that’s both cute and comfortable.
Step 1: Start with a slouchy tunic. This one from the Mint Julep Boutique is super comfortable and a great layering piece. It also happens to be 50% off, it usual retails at $48 but is now only $24 exclusively at this link. I also love the bright blue, it’s versatile enough for everyday wear while being a fun pop of color. I like tunics for the weekend and especially for brunch because they are LOOSE, so I can eat as much as I want without feeling constricted 🙂 A very important element to consider.
Step 2: Dial up the accessories! Let’s face it, tunics are not the most exciting pieces, but they serve as a blank canvas for the rest of the outfit. To get that look that’s not only casual, but also chic, add interesting elements to the outfit with jewelry, bags, or shoes. Up to you, but the more the better for me! I decided to incorporate all three elements into this look, with a boho necklace, gold rings, floral booties, and a vintage handbag.
Step 3: Layer on a jacket/cardigan/blazer/blanket scarf/kimono. As a firm believer of the third piece rule (more on that here), adding something over the tunic will instantly make the outfit look more stylish. For a casual chic look, I chose a minimalist white jacket from COS. A third piece is also functional during the Fall and Winter months, so it’s a win-win.
A bonus step is to incorporate an interesting fabric, like leather! This will definitely take your outfit from just casual to casual chic and make you the standout at brunch 🙂
