Thinking back on my past NYE outfits, there’s always been lots of glitter and sequins involved. I take NYE as a chance to wear something I wouldn’t normally be able to get away with, and in the past this has always meant being flashy. But this year, I wanted to go a different route and wear something sultry and sophisticated with an understated elegance. When I received this lace velvet bodysuit from Adore Me, I knew it would be the perfect piece for a NYE outfit. I wanted to play with contrasting textures and achieve a look that’s not overtly sexy and leaves room for imagination. Of course I froze my butt off shooting these photos in 40 degree weather, but it was all worth it as this is definitely one of my favorite outfits to date.
The key to styling a bodysuit for outside of the bedroom, especially during the Winter, is layering, layering, and more layering. I chose a fur vest to go over the bodysuit for a luxurious vibe and to keep warm. Fur and lace is a such a classic combination, but wearing a fur vest over a lace velvet bodysuit is my modern twist. My other modern addition is pairing the bodysuit with denim jeans. This immediately takes the look outside of lingerie territory, and there’s nothing more effortlessly sexy than a pair of jeans that fit you like a glove. Since the bodysuit is pretty sheer, I also layered a lace bralette under the suit for more coverage. Lastly, I chose leopard print booties to keep with the femme fatale theme.
For my accessories, I wanted to keep it sophisticated with a romantic touch. So I went with a bohemian pink stone necklace with a feather charm, and a black leather watch with rose gold bracelets. I finished the look with a white leather clutch for an extra touch of elegance. A note about the this bodysuit – I initially ordered a M based on my previous experience with Adore Me (I have a corset in M that fits perfectly), but the M for this bodysuit definitely did not fit properly. The velvet boob area was too high and didn’t actually cover my boobs, and the back and shoulder area felt a bit tight. So I sized up to a L, and while the velvet boob area is better, I still do need to wear a bralette underneath for full coverage. The L is also loose in the tummy area, but fits well in the shoulder and back area. So there are a few fit issues with this bodysuit, I think it really depends on your height and body type.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this NYE outfit inspiration! For more tips on how to wear lingerie outside of the bedroom, you can check out my post on styling a corset here.
