Sleek City Look: Color Contrasts & A Unique Handbag

Believe it or not, we shot these photos this past weekend when it was snowing outside in 15 degree weather. Luckily we were able to find a covered area so you can’t see the snow flakes, but boy was it the toughest shoot yet. My hands felt like they were about to get frostbite after being outside without gloves for 20 minutes. But it was all worth it as these photos turned out (surprisingly) well, and the background actually really suits the outfit. This look is inspired by the unique handbag I’m carrying – how special is this little light grey handbag from Oliver Bilou? I immediately fell in love with the quirky shape, plaited edge detail, and retro-style handle. This handbag really speaks to my style and personality, with just the right mix of eclectic and feminine. I also love the inspirational quote on the inside that comes with every bag.

Since the handbag is light grey but looks white with a unique shape, I knew I wanted to create a sharp and punchy look that really lets the bag stand out and dial up the clean color. I played with color contrasts in red and white, and chose a red pleated dress layered over a white turtleneck sweater. For a cool girl vibe, I went with my Coach creeper slides. I love the juxtaposition between the red dress and the creeper slides, I think it’s a true city look that’s fashion-forward and has lots of personality. I could have styled the dress with the more expected ankle boots or heels, but the slides are just the right match with the quirky handbag. For my jewelry, I kept with the modern theme and chose a geometric layered necklace and small rings with intricate details.
