A chunky sweater is a must-have in my winter wardrobe – it’s warm, stylish and versatile. The easiest and probably most common way to style a chunky knit is with skinny jeans for an effortless, model off-duty look. And don’t get me wrong, I love those casual days when I can just thrown on a sweater and go. But I also love those days when my outfit stands out and makes me feel powerful, and so I thought it would be fun to style the sweater with unexpected pieces for a more fashion forward look.
For this look, I decided to play with proportions and pair the chunky sweater with wide leg culottes to achieve an oversized, Stockholm street style vibe. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if this outfit would work as I’m pretty petite and I never want to look bulky or swallowed up in my clothes. So I chose platform knee high boots to add height and sophistication. Since the culottes cut off at a somewhat awkward length, especially for the winter season, I went with knee high boots to cover up my legs for a more streamlined effect. I definitely think the shoes are key to making this outfit work. To add an additional “fashion forward” element, I also layered a choker top under the sweater. A V-neck sweater always makes a great opportunity for layering a blouse underneath or wearing a long necklace.
For my accessories, I kept it minimal with my Celine bag to elevate the look and achieve an air of sophistication. I also chose vintage gold clip-on earrings and a simple bar necklace. Overall I’m quite happy with the end result of this outfit – I like the darker color combination with an unexpected silhouette. I have to admit that this look was not the easiest to shoot and does not look great from all angles on camera. But it does look cool in real life, I swear, and it’s always fun to challenge yourself and experiment when it comes to clothes!
