Mustard Skirt & Vintage Jacket: Carrie Bradshaw Style Series

layersofchic mustard skirt carrie bradshaw style bloglayersofchic mustard skirt carrie bradshaw style fashion blogToday’s post is the second installment in the Carrie Bradshaw Style series. I’m aiming to post this series every two weeks on Fridays, so you all can hold me accountable if that does not happen! If you missed the first post, you can check it out here featuring a polka dot skirt and black peacoat. I love the sophisticated color palette of Carrie’s outfit with a mix of mustard, dark green, and brown. I had to recreate this look because I happened to already have the mustard skirt, so the rest was pretty easy to put together.

Carrie Bradshaw’s Mustard Skirt & Brown Jacket Outfit: Key Elements

  • The Mustard Skirt: It goes without saying that this is the most defining element of Carrie’s outfit. I’ve always loved mustard colored clothing because it’s a more sophisticated version of yellow (which I also love). I consider my pleated mustard skirt an essential part of my wardrobe as it elevates any look.
  • The Brown Jacket: While Carrie’s jacket is longer and a darker brown, I opted for a cropped tan vintage jacket. I’m not sure if Carrie’s jacket is vintage or not, but I figured I would add some vintage elements to this look to make it my own.
  • The Green Blouse: To further add a touch of sophistication to the outfit, I went with my Mom’s vintage green blouse with a pretty floral neckline. This is one of the most treasured pieces in my closet since it has sentimental value and is such a unique design.
  • The Bag & Shoes: Carrie matched the color of her bag to her top, so for my interpretation I matched the color of my bag to my skirt. Didn’t I mention I love mustard? This little vintage mustard handbag is meant to be with the mustard skirt. For my shoes, I chose mint colored mules for a  modern element.

Asides from the outfit itself, I’m also in love with the location of this shoot. These beautiful brick arches are located in Dumbo, Brooklyn. I went on a weekday with a blogger friend and it was just the perfect location for a shoot as it was picturesque and quiet. The brick walls surround a courtyard, so there are plenty of options. Dumbo is just full of shoot opportunities, I can’t wait to go back and do more photos!
