This striped peplum top from SheIn is one of those pieces that makes an instant statement. I wasn’t sure whether the top would work on me given the low-cut neckline, big sleeves, and peplum shape. This top is all about the fit, so I was a bit nervous when I ordered it. Luckily it actually worked out pretty well, and there is a zipper in the back that allows for ease of getting in and out of the top. It is a bit tight in the arms and chest area, so I probably could have sized up (I ordered a Small but a Medium may have worked better). Admittedly, this is not the easiest top to style, so I thought I would focus this post on style tips to make this top work for you.
3 Style Tips for Pulling Off a Statement Top
Pair it with sleek jeans: When in doubt, choose skinny black jeans as they go with everything. The wider proportions of this top make it hard to style with skirts, which I can attest to as I tried many different skirts before settling on jeans. Skinny jeans help give your silhouette a sliming effect in addition to adding height. I look model skinny in these photos, but trust me when I say I am not! I had originally wanted to style this top with flared jeans, but unfortunately they did not arrive in time.
Add height with heels: A statement top like this one with voluminous sleeves and a peplum shape can be bulky, so add height to your look with a pair of chic heels. I chose mint green mules as they go great with jeans and are perfect for Spring. You can also pair the look with chunky heels or even wedges. I would however advise against pointy toed heels as that can take outfit from street style cool to corporate business casual.
Choose dainty rather than chunky jewelry: For a statement top, go with dainty jewelry. Chunky jewelry can add additional bulkiness to your look and take away from the top. Since this top has a deep V-neck, it is the perfect chance to wear a long dainty necklace. I layered mine with a thin rose gold choker for a touch of sophistication. I also went with a rose gold bangle and delicate silver rings.
I completed the outfit with fun accessories and pops of color. You all know I love pairing socks with heels, so of course I showed off my new diamond print Happy Socks. For a sharp pop of color, I chose my red Cocovann backpack. I love the backpack style as it gives the look an effortless vibe, yet the leather material of the backpack is still sophisticated and elegant. Lastly, I put on a bold lip for an editorial worthy ensemble.
