Picnics in Central Park are one of my favorite things about Summer in NYC. The sunny skies, expansive greenery, and beautiful lake are just a few elements that make picnics so great. But achieving the perfect picnic outfit is not always as easy. First of all, there’s the heat to consider. NYC in the middle of Summer is not pleasant, and no one wants to be roasting in the middle of an open field. Then you need to consider that fact that you’ll be sitting at a picnic, so choosing the right clothes can be tricky. Read on for my three essentials that will help you perfect your picnic outfit!
3 Essentials for Perfecting a Picnic Outfit
A Lightweight Hat: An essential piece for combating the sun and achieving those picnic vibes, a lightweight hat is the perfect accessory for a relaxed yet stylish look. Choose a wide-brim style for a summery feel, and pay attention to the fabric. A hat also doubles as a cover for your face if you intend to take a nice long nap during your picnic.
A Floral Midi Skirt: Nothing screams picnic like a floral print! As you all know I’m not a pants or shorts type of girl, and for a picnic I want to look especially feminine. So a midi skirt is a great option as it’s long enough to cover your knees when sitting, but doesn’t have so much fabric that it will make you sweat. The one I’m wearing is from Rosegal and is only $16, but I think it looks way more expensive.
A Cute Picnic Basket: Duh, right?! No picnic is complete without a picnic basket, the more unique the better. I actually don’t own a picnic basket, but my blogger bestie Lourdes from Please, Do Tell was kind enough to let me borrow hers. I love the wooden design of the basket, it gives it a vintage-y feel that goes perfectly with my style.
For the rest of my outfit, I paired the skirt with a blush pink vintage blouse for a super feminine look. I chose my watermelon Vera Bradley bag because a fruit bag seemed like the obvious choice for a picnic. I completed my picnic outfit with red loafers to match my watermelon bag, a floral Ted Baker watch, and the biggest pom pom earrings ever from BaubleBar. I may be slightly obsessed with these earrings 🙂
