Where to Stay in LA + Blogger-Worthy Photo Spots

Two weeks ago I went to Los Angeles for five days with my blogger friend Kasey Ma from TheStyleWright. The last time I had been to LA was when I was 8 years old, so the experience this time was definitely quite different. The first thing I need to say is that it was not warm and sunny like I expected. As you can see from this above photo, I had to wear tights….tights, in LA of all places! The temperature felt like it was in 50’s, and it even rained one of the days we were there. Needless to say, my expectations did not match up with reality. And to be honest, as I mentioned in a previous post, the trip was rather stressful as Kasey and I were so focused on getting good photos. Kasey had secured two hotel collabs, I had a Toyota collab, and we both had food partnerships. So the trip felt more like work than anything, but we did manage to have fun here and there.

Where to Stay in LA

There are so many options when it comes to where to stay in LA. We went with two charming boutique hotels in two different parts of LA. They were very different from each other, giving us some variety in photos and in the experience. LayersofChic Where to Stay in LA Hotel Beverly Terrace Toyota Prius

For the first two nights, we stayed at the Hotel Beverly Terrace, a quaint boutique hotel with an open courtyard and roof deck. Located in between Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, this hotel is the perfect choice for those who want to take in the glam of Rodeo Drive, Melrose Avenue, and the Beverly Hills mansions. We were lucky enough to have a sponsorship with Toyota for the entire trip, allowing us to hit all the best LA spots worry-free. Of course I had a very colorful car to match my colorful style: the Toyota Prius Prime in Blue Magnetism. We definitely had no trouble spotting this car on any street or parking lot!

Now back to the hotel – the Hotel Beverly Terrace is great for budget travelers who don’t want to compromise quality. While the rooms are on the small side, they are well decorated, well lit, and perfectly functional. The hotel offers a complimentary continental breakfast every morning, which we managed to wake up for on one of the mornings. Our favorite part about the hotel was the courtyard terrace, where these photos were taken. Surrounded by lush greenery and white couches, this terrace felt like such an oasis. We had a grand plan of having breakfast out on the terrace for photos, but of course we did not manage to get up on time (I blame Kasey for this as she is not a morning at all)!

After we explored Beverly Hills, we then stayed at the Culver Hotel for our last three nights. Located in Culver City, the Culver Hotel is a historic landmark and a vintage lover’s dream. This hotel has serious retro glam vibes, every corner I turned felt straight out of a vintage film. The lobby is decorated with plush red couches and the cutest Betty Boop poster. Upon entering our room, we were greeted with a warm welcome card, cookies, and a gift card to cocktails at the hotel bar. Of course I had to dress the part and chose a floral dress from Unique Vintage to perfectly match the hotel wallpaper. LayersofChic Where to Stay in LA Culver Hotel Vintage Style LayersofChic Where to Stay in LA Culver Hotel Vintage Meets Modern styleLayersofChic Where to Stay in LA suite roomWe absolutely loved our room, which was the Junior Suite and comes with two queen beds and a separate sitting area. How gorgeous is the chandelier in the the room?! I was absolutely in love with the decor. We decided to indulge a little and ordered a Belgian waffle for breakfast, along with a bottle of champagne. But to be honest, we did it for the photos! LayersofChic Where to Stay in LA Culver Hotel Blogger girls LayersofChic Where to Stay in LA Culver Hotel Room Service LayersofChic LayersofChic Where to Stay in LA Culver Hotel room bed

No trip to LA is complete without going to Disneyland, the happiest place on earth (I’m a cheeseball, I know). Kasey and I fully intended to spend an entire day at Disneyland, but intentions apparently do not match up with reality. We did not get to Disney until 6PM, and hence we only had 1 hour to get good photos before the sun set. We may have gotten a bit distracted on the way there at In-N-Out….But we accomplished what we needed to, which was getting photos in front of the Magic Kingdom castle. This photo of us together was actually taken by a random stranger on the iPhone. I had to do a lot of editing, but I think the end result is pretty cute! We wanted to get Mickey Mouse ears/balloons for the photos, but they were too expensive ($25 for the ears and $15 for balloons!). So we settled on cotton candy instead which was only $4. That blogger budget is rough, guys. After photos, we managed to go on one ride, my favorite Space Mountain. We then spent an exorbitant amount of time at the Disney Store. LayersofChic Disneyland Los Angeles Magic Kingdom CastleLayersofChic In-N-Out Burger LA Blogger SpotsLayersofChic Where to Stay in LA In-N-Out Burger Fashion Bloggers style LA

Another must-visit spot in LA is of course In-N-Out. Admittedly, this was not what I remembered it to be (I had In-N-Out one other time back in college). It’s definitely been glorified through pop culture and social media – I was so surprised to find that the burgers were so cheap. In my mind, In-N-Out is like the New York version of Shake Shack. This turned out to be a very inaccurate thought. You can’t really compare the two. In-N-Out is its own experience, from the taste to the atmosphere. They definitely don’t use the best quality meat, but I do like the animal style burger and fries. And of course, we had to get some photos.

We also took some time to stroll down Rodeo Drive, and I have to admit I thought of the Pretty Woman movie the whole time (it’s actually my favorite movie!). We found an intersection in the middle of the street that is a car dead zone, so we decided to take photos there for the best effect. I love how the palm trees look and being able to see both sides of the street in the shot. We did get honked at several times, but that’s just the life of a blogger!

One of my favorite spots I visited was Alfred Tea Room. I’ve seen this place a million times on Instagram and knew I had to go there the moment I booked a ticket to LA. It definitely did not disappoint. First of all, the decor is made for bloggers, from the pink walls to the colorful bubble teas. The food and drink were also amazing. I had a special strawberry matcha concoction with boba and a matcha croissant, and if I could have both everyday and not gain weight, I would be the happiest girl alive. Everything here is just so damn Insta-worthy, I wanted to visit it again but unfortunately did not have time. Guess that’s an excuse for me to go back to LA.

Another standout food and drink spot is Plan Check Kitchen + Bar. This is basically the place to go if you are craving something unhealthy but absolutely delicious. We had the crab artichoke dip to start and it was so divine, like legit one of the best things I’ve tasted. I had a fried chicken sandwich that was super crispy, and the prettiest floral cocktail. Dessert also did not disappoint, we shared a donut churro thing with scoops of ice cream and it really hit the spot.

The last spot we visited is the famous white columns at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, aka LACMA. I’m sure you’ve seen these columns everywhere on Instagram, so of course we had to make a trip. I highly recommend going there EARLY – we went at 3PM on a Sunday and it was really hard to get clean shots without people in them. The impact of the white columns really only comes through when there’s no one else in the photo, so timing is definitely key. It took a lot of waiting and quick snapping to get these shots.
