As a fashion blogger, part of my job is staying on top of upcoming fashion trends. This can be hard to do as I’m not a professional trend forecaster, so I usually rely on what I see during NYFW and on Instagram and magazines. As some of you might have seen on my previous post and Instagram, last week I attended the Atlanta Apparel Market, which is a trade show where buyers come to buy clothing and accessories for next season. It is essentially a sneak peek into next season’s trends, and a great way to stay in the know. The entire experience was so much fun, as I got the chance to mingle with buyers, browse floors and floors of gorgeous clothing, and even style and present two looks on a Fall trend panel with fellow influencers Fashionably Kay, Loverly Grey, and Macy Stucke. On the first day at the Atlanta Apparel Market, we were each assigned two Fall trends to style for the trend panel. Being the prints and color girl I am, of course I chose polka dots and rainbow stripes as my two trends. Next came the fun part as we got to visit a bunch of showrooms and pick out two outfits that incorporated our trends. I instantly fell in love with a stunning polka dot jumpsuit that had ruffle sleeves and an open back. It’s a cooler and trendier alternative to the little black dress. For a Fall inspired look, I layered a sleeveless fur vest over it and paired it with a mustard shoulder bag.For my second trend Rainbow Stripes, it was a bit harder to find pieces with this print for Fall. But I rose up to the challenge and scored a pair of rainbow striped pants, and I have to admit this is my favorite look of the two and best represents my style. I had a lot of fun styling the rainbow stripes – I looked for pieces that pulled from the colors in the pants. I chose a chunky mauve sweater and oversized light pink coat to make the pants work for Fall. I then added an aqua colored cross body bag pulling from the aqua stripe in the pants, and completed the outfit with pink sunglasses.
After spending the day putting together our looks, we ended the night with a “Meet The Influencers” Happy Hour, where we chatted with buyers and brands, and of course had some wine.
Day two was definitely the most nerve-wracking as we started the morning off bright and early with the trend panel. This was not my first panel so I was not super nervous, but I do always get butterflies before presenting something and speaking in front of a large gropu of people. But once the panel started, my nerves faded away and it was actually pretty fun. Asides from our two trends, we talked about all things fashion and accessories, and even answered some rapid fire questions.
We ended the day with an exciting fashion show that showcased 60 Fall looks. That’s right, 60! It was definitely the longest fashion show I’ve attended, and it felt really nice to be able to sit back and enjoy the outfits. The whole experience at the Atlanta Apparel Market was unlike anything I’ve done before, and I totally feel ready for Fall now (even though Spring still has not Sprung in New York)!
