This is one of my favorite shoots to date. If you are looking for an alternative to Central Park for shoots, I strongly recommend Fort Tryon Park. It’s definitely a trek as it’s all the uptown, close to where the Cloisters is, but it is so worth it! Make a day out of it and bring multiple outfits to shoot, and then visit the Cloisters afterwards. Since I had never been to Fort Tryon before, I researched online beforehand where would be the best spots to shoot. I came across photos of the Billings Arcade, and I knew that I had to shoot there. This historic landmark is the original driveway and remains of the Billings Mansion, built in 1905. A fire destroyed the Billings Mansion, and this arcade is all that remains of it. I totally felt like I was transported to another world when I walked through the Billings Arcade, there is something magical about it.
I had a vision to feature a fashion forward and edgy outfit that would contrast against the historic setting. So I chose a neoprene top paired with a side zipper mini-skirt for a cool and modern look. This top is one of my most treasured possessions – I found it in Singapore and it is by an independent designer who is based there. The skirt is by a brand called Luba, and I really like the side front zipper and triangle slit. Somehow the prints on the top and skirt match perfectly, they look different yet in conjunction with each other.
Continuing with the modern edgy outfit, I chose unconventional leather clogs for my shoes. These clogs from Coach always add an unexpected edge to any outfit, and I often get asked where I got them. To add a pop of color to this look, I went with my mustard yellow vintage handbag. I completed the outfit with edgy bangles from Freida Rothman and statement gold earrings by Taylor Wilkinson.
