I recently tried a platinum skin care collection called Bionyx that retails at a whopping $2,000. I have to admit I was super intrigued and a bit apprehensive when they reached out to me to do a review. I had heard about platinum skin care or “diamond skincare”, which essentially contains minerals such as diamonds, platinum, and gold that help with anti-aging, smoothing, and brightening. So it’s no surprise that a hefty price point comes with the use of these premium ingredients, but the big question is are they worth it? There’s been a lot of hype around platinum skin care in the last few years, so I jumped at the chance to try Bionyx and see what all the hype is about.
Before we get into the full review, I should clarify that the entire collection retails for $2000, and this contains three products: the Platinum Transformative Cream ($550), Platinum Transformative Serum ($550), and Platinum Transformative Thermal Mask ($900). Bionyx offers a range of different collections targeted at different skin concerns, and I decided to try out the Transformative Collection. I chose this collection as it contains antioxidants that protect the skin, while helping to strengthen and renew to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I liked that this collection sounded the most natural and mild out of all the products, as I have fairly sensitive skin that can sometimes react to stronger ingredients. I was also a sucker for the packaging on the Transformative Collection as it comes in these cool sleek looking black bottles, which of course I thought would look great in photos.
Serums are typically the most important step in skincare in my opinion, as they contain all the good stuff that really work to make a difference in your skin. Think of serums as the hardcore step where all the ingredients get infused into your skin, and then you apply a face cream to seal in those ingredients. The Bionyx Platinum Transformative Serum contains colloidal platinum, which is the signature ingredient that works to refine and renew the skin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. The serum is a clear color and light texture that absorbs quickly into the skin. I like that it has a super light scent that almost makes it odorless. Like most serums, it is slightly sticky when you first apply, but quickly absorbs to leave the skin feeling smooth and silky. I use the serum twice daily, once in the morning and once at night. The serum retails for $550 for a 1.01fl.oz bottle, so it is definitely pricey in terms of how much product you get. Upon opening the bottle to see how much I’ve used (you can’t tell if you don’t open the bottle since it’s a solid black), it looks like I’ve used about half in a month. So the product likely will last for 2 months if you use it twice a day. I typically use 1-2 pumps each time, depending on how my skin is feeling that day. You could definitely get longer usage out of it if you’re more conservative with your usage. I tend to slather it all over my face and neck for maximum impact.
After using the serum, I apply the Bionyx Platinum Transformative Cream. Like the serum, it contains colloidal platinum as the main ingredient, as well as powerful antioxidants. The cream also has a light texture and when applied to the skin, you get an immediate cooling effect that feels quite nice. It has a similar scent to the serum but slightly stronger, and absorbs quickly into the skin with no stickiness. The cream is also $550 but comes in a larger container at 1.05 oz. I also use the cream twice a day, and so far I’ve used about 1/3 of the jar in a month. With the combination of the serum and cream, I’ve definitely seen a difference in my skin. My skin appears brighter and smoother, and generally looks more energized. I have some dark spots on my face, and I like that the Bionyx products have made those appear lighter and less apparent. I can’t speak as much to the wrinkles part as I don’t have many to begin with. Most of my wrinkles are around my eye area, which I use a separate eye cream for not from Bionyx.
My favorite product from the Bionyx Transformative collection is the Bionxy Platinum Transformative Thermal Mask. I’ve never tried any mask like this one, and I have to admit it feels truly luxurious. The mask is a gooey texture that you apply with a mini spatula (comes with the product) directly onto your face. Now comes the cool part: upon application, the mask heats up for the most luxurious feeling. If you guys think that sounds scary or are worried about burning, trust me it’s neither of those things. It doesn’t get super hot, just warm enough for it to feel like you’re getting a spa-like treatment. The closest I can describe the feeling is like when you first step into a hot bath. After a few minutes, the mask cools down and settles in to work its magic. I leave it on for 15 minutes and have been using it once a week. Like the serum and cream, the mask contains colloidal platinum to purify the skin and remove dirt, as well as reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. After using the mask, my skin always looks glowing and feels baby soft. Not surprisingly, the mask is the most expensive product at $900, however it will last you way longer than the serum or cream. I’ve used it about 4 times in the past month, and I’ve barely made a dent in the bottle.
So now for the question you’re all wondering: Is $2000 Platinum Skin care worth it? I’m going to be completely honest with you guys when I answer this question. Did I see a difference in my skin? Yes, my skin generally looks brighter and feels smoother. Was the difference life-changing? No, but that may be because my skin was pretty good to begin with, and as I mentioned I do not have many wrinkles, which is one of the keys benefits of the platinum ingredient. So would I pay so much for the products? Probably not as I have other things I would rather spend my money on, and I was pretty happy with my skin already, so $2000 is excessive for me to spend on something that is already pretty good. But for more context, I am not in the income bracket to be able to drop so much money on skincare, so it’s really all relative. If you make a lot of money, you might be more willing to spend $2000 on a skincare collection. Or if you have certain skin concerns that you want to address, this might be worth it for you. My conclusion is that the products do work, they just didn’t work enough for me to justify the price point of $2000 for three products.
Asides from the transformative collection, Bionyx also has a range of other collections and products. Their daily essentials products are the Platinum Essential Day Cream and Platinum Night Recovery Cream. This collection is definitely more affordable at $109 per product, so this might be a good collection to start with if you’re not ready to drop $500 on a bottle of skincare. There is also the Platinum Foaming Sheet Mask, which sounds intriguing as it is a lush facial treatment with brightening fruit extracts and invigorating oxygen bubbles for maximum moisture. For deep wrinkles, I recommend trying the Biolift Platinum Collection, which is designed with advanced ingredients to provide immediate lifting effects to the skin. Lastly, the Ageless Alloy Collection is the cream of the crop retailing at $6,000, and contains a unique combination of copper and platinum to encourage collagen renewal for more a youthful appearance.
