Happy New Year everyone! I originally was going to just do a regular outfit post and avoid the cheesy “2019 goals and resolutions post”, but I figured this would be a good chance to get a bit more personal and also update you guys on my plans for 2019. The big news is that I am hiring a part-time assistant for Layers of Chic! This is a huge deal for me as it’s just been me working on everything thus far, and it is both nerve-wracking and exciting to bring someone else onto the blog. My main goal for 2019 is to grow my Youtube channel and do more styling videos, so this assistant will primarily be helping me with filming and editing my videos. I am currently in the process of interviewing candidates and am astounded by the response and number of applicants I’ve received!
In addition to growing my Youtube channel, I really want to focus more on the strategy and long-term goals for Layers of Chic. While Instagram has been my primary medium for the past 2 and half years and has served me well, it is no longer what it used to be. The market has become extremely saturated and the Instagram algorithm is constantly in flux, so I’m looking to establish a more long-term strategy for growing my platform. While 2018 has been about proving to myself that I can work with brands and make a full-time income as a fashion blogger, 2019 is going to focus more on further refining the aesthetic and branding for Layers of Chic, and developing a sustainable business strategy.
From a personal standpoint, my 2019 goal is to achieve more balance in my life. The idea of a “work-life” balance doesn’t really exist when my blog is about my life and such a personal part of me. But I do think I need to set one day a week to just relax and do non-blog related things. I find this extremely hard to do because I love working on my blog and sharing my outfits everyday, and oftentimes I’d rather be doing that than something “fun”. But I’ve come to realize that I need some time away from my work each week so that I can see the bigger picture and not get caught up in my daily tasks and nitty gritty. I believe this will with my creativity and keep me inspired.
Now a little bit about this outfit: I fell in love with this pink flapper style beaded dress from ASOS the moment I saw it! I love the vintage vibe and delicate embellishments, and there’s something to elegant and effortlessly chic about a slip dress. It is now also on sale for 40% off! I paired it with a pink faux fur coat from Cabi to give this look a luxe vibe. I completed the outfit with lace-up booties and a triangle cage bag, both from ASOS.
What I’m Wearing:
Beaded Dress: ASOS
Coat: Cabi (sold out, similar here)
Boots: ASOS (sold out, similar here)
Bag: ASOS
Earrings: SEQUIN
Necklace: SEQUIN

That pink jacket is gorgeous! It would be a lot of fun to wear. You have a lot of interesting pieces in this look, like that dress and the purse, and those bright boots. Looks great!
Love this outfit! And I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2019 🙂

Very unique look, I definitely wouldn’t be able to pull it off but you look fab.
I need this whole outfit but especially that coat and bag! So chic! I actually feel the same way. I feel like I have ZERO balance and I’m hoping to change that in 2019.

This is one of your bets colors! I would love to rock this dress!`
I couldn’t believe the price of that dress… what a steal! Thanks so much for sharing
Hi Mary. I feel the same way about creating that work-life balance, as I too, get caught up in blogging. It’s hard to separate the two, because mine is personal as well. Living in real time as opposed to writing and creating all day? That’s a skill. Keep pursuing your goals. Congrats on finding acceptance on where you are in life.
Congratulations on hiring some help! And although you want to expand your reach, I hope you will not change your unique style, and the personal tone of your writing. The photos are wonderful (as is your styling, always!); the balance of you and fashion is just right. Don’t think you need to make any changes to stay ahead of the curve.
Getting down to details — I love how you carefully put two small shoe-shaped items in the see-through cage bag! Great touch. Happy 2019!
