This is one of my favorite and most creative shoots to date. I am a diehard Harry Potter fan – I’ve read each book 4-5 times, watched all the movies at least twice, and recently saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play, as well as the History of Magic exhibit at the NY Historical Society. If you’re a Potterhead like me, I definitely recommend both the play and the exhibit! The interesting thing about this shoot is that it was not purposely planned to be a Harry Potter outfit. When I put on this burgundy dress from Unique Vintage, it instantly reminded me of Hermonie Granger. So I decided to pair it with a striped yellow scarf and red backpack, both classic Gryffindor colors. But what really brought this shoot to life is once I arrived at the Oculus and started shooting. It occurred to me that I should pretend like I’m holding a wand, and then add in some light effects in editing to make it look like I’m doing a spell. I absolutely love the way the above photo turned out, it’s so magical!
To channel my inner Hermonine Granger, I also added round glasses. I completed my Harry Potter outfit with lace-up booties, red earrings, and gold bangles to stay within the Gryffindor color scheme. I’m currently obsessed with this striped yellow scarf from Missguided, it’s so soft and only $10!
If you’re not a Harry Potter fan like me, you can easily make this outfit non-Potter themed by adding a fur coat. This fur bolero from Shop Jocelyn is currently one of my favorite pieces and it goes with everything! You can see how I styled it in this post with separates.
