French Riviera Vacation Must-Sees: Nice & Monaco

Happy Friday everyone! I took a French Riviera vacation a few weeks ago and it was hands-down one of the best places I’ve ever been. A vacation was much needed on my end as I don’t usually travel asides from Asia to see family for Christmas. It was so nice to just relax with friends and have a real vacation. We stayed in Nice but took day trips to Monaco and Menton, as well as an overnight trip to St. Tropez. As I have a lot of photos I’ll be sharing them in two posts. Today I’m sharing the first few days in Nice and the day trip we took to Monaco.

First things first, the beaches in Nice are extremely rocky. But that wasn’t a problem for us as we found a great place called Miami Beach (great name right?) where we could rent chairs and umbrellas for 16 EU per day. Not a bad deal considering we got to lie out all day on comfortable chairs and were waited on by a slew of cute and attentive waiters. Of course the water in Nice is perfect with no waves, we loved going in to cool off throughout the day. I don’t know about you, but I’m not a huge fan of waves as it makes me feel like I’m going to drown. Miami Beach also offers food and drinks, so we got two bottles of Rosé and it was just heaven.

What trip would be complete without pastries? Bakeries were everywhere. This one was right by the AirBnB we stayed at, super convenient to grab and go in the morning before heading to the beach. If you’re considering a trip to Nice, I highly recommend the AirBnB we stayed at (here), it was the perfect size for 4 people with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, two small terraces, and a private rooftop terrace. The private terrace was the best part with a BBQ grill, dining table, and couches. It was the perfect place to end the day with a bottle of Rosé. We loved it there so much that we even had our AirBnB host and his family over for dinner one night on the terrace!

One of my favorite parts of Nice is The Massena Square. Here there are 7 statutes that represent the 7 continents, as well as a beautiful water fountain that lights up at night. I love the view of the city backdrop in this photo.

We ended our first night in Nice with more Rosé and cocktails at Beau Rivage, a hotel resort with a lovely lounge on the beach. We intended for it to be a chill first night, but it ended up being quite a long night as some boys approached us. They proceeded to order a bottle of magnum-sized Rosé and kept us out until 2AM. I guess that’s what happens when a group of 4 girls goes out in Nice.

On the third day we took a day trip out to Monaco, accessible a quick 30 minute train ride away from Nice. I totally fell in love with Monaco and the beautiful architecture with pastel tones. We walked around the city and visited the Jardin Exotique, aka the Exotic Garden off Monaco. Here we found breathtaking views and picture perfect spots. So we did what any sane person would do – take lots of princess photos of ourselves.

Gorgeous views of the city from the garden. I love all the cactuses and exotic plants.

My outfit of the day for exploring Monaco. I was totally channeling the pastel colors of Monaco without planning it. I chose sneakers for the day as I knew we would be doing a lot of walking. It turned out to be the right choice as the garden actually required some climbing. We definitely got our exercise in that day.

More shots of the beautiful streets of Monaco. I’m seriously obsessed with the colors, it feels like a fairytale town. Monaco was my favorite city in the French Riviera, I definitely want to go back and spend more time there.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this first part of my French Riviera travel diary! Part two is coming next week, so be sure to check back here for more travel inspiration. Or better yet, go ahead and follow me on Bloglovin below so you get updates automatically when I post 🙂

Hi Jaime! I use the Canon EOS Rebel XSI with the 50mm 1.8 lens. The lens is a fixed lense with very low aperture, only $100!
