Culottes is one of those trends that I’ve never been a huge fan of until this summer. The main reason was I felt I could never pull them off properly on my petite frame. But after finding this white pair at & Other Stories which don’t overwhelm my frame, culottes have become a staple in my closet and I’ve discovered they are actually quite versatile. Before I quit my job, one of my go-to pieces for the office was culottes. They are perfect for a summer work outfit as they are dressy enough without being stuffy. Read on for my 3 easy tips on how to wear culottes to work!
Tip 1: Pair it with a button-up shirt. This is a great way to immediately make culottes appropriate for work. I like a button-up shirt because the crispness of the shirt goes well with the clean lines of the culottes. I chose a sleeveless version from Everlane for a summer look, but this outfit could also with a short-sleeve or long-sleeve shirt. The key is to choose a shirt with structure to complement the shape of the culottes.
Tip 3: Add a third piece for layering. I’m sure you guys have heard of the rule of the “third piece” as the key to looking fashionable, and it definitely applies here! I chose a light vest to compliment the sleeveless blouse, but this look would also work with a sharp blazer for a formal meeting or a slouchy kimono for more casual work settings. The third piece adds an element of surprise and sophistication, and I know we all want to look sophisticated at work.
For my accessories, I chose more feminine pieces to balance the minimalist top and pants. I completed the look with a statement necklace and my Kate Spade bag. If you’re curious on how to wear culottes for a more casual look, you can see my posts here and here.
I hope I’ve made wearing culottes easier for you! If you’ve skimmed this post, I’ve recapped the three tips below:
Tip 1: Pair it with a button-up shirt.
