How to Wear Florals for Fall & Oversized Sleeves

This floral blouse with oversized sleeves is one of my favorite finds from Zara. The blouse reminds me of Gucci and I love the proportions with the extra long sleeves but cropped length. I’m a huge fan of florals and wear them all year round, and for Fall it’s a great way to add an unexpected dimension into your wardrobe.

In styling florals for Fall, I keep a few things in mind:

  • I look for darker colors with a floral pattern, preferably in a deep navy, burgundy, or mauve. Darker colors help prevent the piece from looking too summery.
  • I choose a piece with heavier fabric to go with the florals, such as leather, wool, or knit. This is a nice way to contrast the Spring/Summer vibe of florals.
  • For cooler Fall days, layering is the key by adding a leather jacket or bomber, or an oversized blanket scarf. If you’re wearing a skirt, another way to transition the look into Fall is to wear knit tights. This immediately gives the outfit a cozy feel.

In this outfit, I kept with the darker color theme and paired the blouse with a leather skirt and black fringe heels. A flared skirt style always looks good with a cropped top, and I chose one with extra volume to play with the proportions of the oversized sleeves. For cooler days, I would add a pair of grey knit tights and a leather jacket. For my accessories, I matched the floral blouse with a vintage floral handbag. I also complemented the V-neck shape of the blouse with two layered necklaces from Rocksbox.
