Can you guess what is the one piece you need for a preppy outfit? A plaid jacket, or anything with plaid! My style is not usually preppy, but this plaid jacket inevitably adds a preppy touch, so I embraced it and paired the jacket with a denim shirt and flared mini skirt. I got this jacket in Asia 3 years ago and it has proved to be quite timeless as I’m still wearing it now. The black and white color makes it super versatile and easy to pair with different looks. I also really like the leather lining on the inside which elevates the jacket and gives it some edge.
I decided to pair the jacket with navy tones for a true preppy look. I could totally see this outfit on a prep school girl. Not sure what that says about me given that I’m 27, but I digress. To add that touch of feminine schoolgirl flair, I chose my monogrammed pink Gigi New York cross-body bag and Coach floral booties. I also paired the booties with pink socks as a modern take on schoolgirl knee socks. For my jewelry, I kept it feminine with rose gold bracelets. Lastly, I chose dark blue nails for that streak of rebelliousness that all preppy girls go through at some point. A good outfit is all about the details!
For a preppy outfit, you could also incorporate a plaid skirt or scarf rather than a jacket if you don’t want to commit to so much plaid. It would be totally cute to do a plaid skirt with a leather jacket to nail that feminine-edgy prep school look!
