Ruffles and Bowties: Cuteness Overload

Two of my favorite details in clothing are ruffles and bowties. How cute is this navy blouse that has both details? I knew I had to have it when I saw it online at the Roadkill Ranch boutique’s website. The blouse also comes in pink with a navy bowtie for an even more feminine look, but I like the navy as it’s more wearable for Fall. Ruffles are so in this season and I just can’t get enough of the trend! I decided to embrace the cuteness of the top and go all out with a super cutesy and vintage inspired look.

I paired the blouse with a mustard yellow pleated skirt. Navy and mustard yellow are one of my favorite color combinations, and I almost always pair this skirt with a navy top, as you can also see in this post. The two colors together just pop and create a very photographable outfit. I like the darker yellow tone of this skirt as it’s great for Fall and Winter looks. The material is also on the heavier side, almost like a suede, so it really is a perfect Fall skirt.

To dial-up the cuteness factor, I chose my vintage black pumps paired with socks. Nothing like heels and socks to immediately add a girly vibe to any look. For my accessories, I matched a vintage navy handbag with my blouse, and went with big clip-on earrings and an assortment of eclectic rings.

So I realize the amount of cuteness in this look might not be for everyone. But an easy way to toughen up the look is to add a leather jacket! With the leather jacket draped over my shoulders, it totally transforms the look and takes it into the 21st century. Adding a leather jacket also fulfills the idea of the “third piece”, which if you haven’t heard of before is the idea that a third piece almost always makes the outfit more fashionable. You can read more about the third piece in this post.

The blouse is available here at the Roadkill Ranch boutique’s website, an independent boutique based in CA that has a ton of unique bohemian and vintage inspired pieces. I also picked up the boho necklace in my jewelry favorites post from the same boutique. Hope you’ve enjoyed this look, and have a great weekend!

The sweater I am wearing is another from Evy’s Tree and it is the perfect transitional maternity style! The Sophie in Jewel hit the shelf for the first time just half hour ago and I doubt it will last long. It is light, but warm enough to be worn throughout the fall season.
