Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and time with loved ones! In the spirit of Thanksgiving and giving thanks, today’s post is about a brand that not only has a great collection of nail polishes in bright colors, but that also gives back. When heroine.nyc reached out to me about reviewing their nail polish collection, the brand caught my attention because of its unique approach to making the polishes and its mission to give back part of the proceeds of every sale to a charity. Heroine.nyc incorporates the customer’s input into their product development so that they are making stuff people actually want. Each of the polishes in their latest collection is named based on consumer input from Instagram. Additionally, they seek out user input for which charity they should donate proceeds to each month. It’s so cool when a brand actually values your opinions rather than making products based solely on the bottom line.
One of my favorite things about nail polish is coordinating the colors with my outfits. I love nail polish with fun colors that make a statement. I was so inspired by the bright colors from the heroine.nyc collection, so I thought it would be fun to show you guys how to match your nail polish with your accessories!
In this first flatlay, the neon green color of Sublime reminded me of tropical islands. So I went with a citrus-tropical theme and chose an orange fruit box that doubles as a handbag, mint green mules, pineapple socks, and statement necklaces. These fruit boxes are the cutest things ever, and yes they have a handle so that they can double as a purse. This would be such a fun summer look paired with a daisy sundress!
In this second look, I went with a polka dot theme to complement the deep blue polish Royal Blood. Blue and red is one of my favorite color combinations, so I chose my vintage polka dot red heels (found at the Brooklyn Flea for $20!) and a matching vintage blue and red polka dot dress.
For the third color, I gravitated towards this hot pink in Mean Girl (a very fitting name indeed). Seeing as how pink is my favorite color at the moment, I decided to go with all-pink, over the top accessories. This includes my pink afternoon tea hat (see how I wore it here), velvet boots, and a big floral skirt. Girly girls rejoice!
I love wearing nail polish, but I’m too cheap to get a manicure at the salon. It’s one of those things I’ve just never spent money on regularly, and it doesn’t seem worth it to me to pay for someone else to do my nails. So I’ve gotten quite good at doing my own nail, and I’ve definitely got an easy routine down for an at-home manicure. It usually takes me about 30 minutes from start to finish, plus the time needed to dry the nails.
I keep my routine pretty simple! Below are my steps:
The completed nails in White Noise. Confession: I tried to get fancy and do a pink stripe in the middle of my pinky nail and failed, so I had to paint over it. So my next project is going to be learning how to do nail art 🙂
