Even though I just got back from Thailand a few weeks ago, the New York cold already has me dreaming of my next tropical vacation. These photos were taken at the Four Seasons resort in Koh Samui, where there was a private beach complete with cabanas and delicious poolside cocktails. For my trip to Thailand, I decided to stick with a specific theme for my clothing, which made packing a lot easier and my photos more cohesive. Read on for my tips on what to wear on a tropical vacation.
What to Wear on a Tropical Vacation
Floral dresses and floral print pieces: Nothing screams tropical like a pretty floral dress, and who doesn’t want to live in floral pieces all week long? For Thailand, I stuck to the floral theme and packed tons of floral maxi dresses (you see can one of them in this post), floral beach cover-ups, and even floral print sandals. I wanted to be effortlessly pretty with pieces that you can just throw on and go.
Wide-brim hats: For any tropical vacation where sun and/or beach are involved, a wide-brim hat is crucial for both protecting your face from the sun and looking stylish. Wide-brim hats are the perfect accessory for both the beach and a day-trip exploring an exotic attraction.
2-3 Pieces of Boho Chic Jewelry: Jewelry can make or break your outfit, but it’s one of those pieces that are super annoying to pack. So I suggest limiting yourself to 2-3 key pieces that go with the theme of your vacation outfits. Pick a pair of statement earrings that stand out whether you have your hair up or down, a delicate necklace, and some fun bangles. To match with the floral theme, I chose boho chic pieces that add a free-sprited vibe to my outfits.
For this beach look, I went with a sheer floral cover-up that can also be worn as a dress with a slip underneath. Bonus points if you can bring a piece that suits both the beach and dinner! To achieve an interesting mix of prints, I paired the dress with a striped bikini underneath. I finished the look with a navy wide-brim hat, statement earrings, and a long dainty necklace.
