Schoolgirl Style: Velvet Slip Dress & Red Backpack

This is one of my favorite looks that I wore to NYFW. When I received this red backpack from COCOVANN, it reminded me of my schoolgirl days, so I was inspired to create a schoolgirl style outfit. I happened to have just the right pieces: a velvet slip dress that has an innocently sweet vibe to it, and a lace turtleneck to be layered under the dress for that modest schoolgirl look. As tights and socks are an essential part of any schoolgirl uniform, I chose grey knit tights and sheer floral socks. Adding a whimsical element to the look, I went with my favorite blush pink velvet sparkly heels. I am seriously obsessed with these heels. The moment I put them on in the store I just could not take them off!

This COCOVANN leather red backpack was the perfect bag for NYFW. While it looks small, it actually fit all my essentials including my chunky DSLR camera, and the best part was that it left me hands-free. During NYFW I’m always running around between shows and events, so having both hands was amazing as it allowed me to hold food/drinks and my phone without having to worry about dropping anything. I kind of love the feeling of carrying a backpack, there’s something so effortlessly chic about it. But if you’re not a backpack girl, this bag also comes with an adjustable cross-body strap that you can wear on your shoulders like a regular handbag. COCOVANN seriously has an amazing collection of bags that are stylish and functional, I’ve previously featured a navy leather bag in this post. Did I mention that you can get 40% off their entire AW16 collection with the code LAYERSOFCHIC40?! The code is only valid for a limited time until April 1st, so don’t let it go to waste!

On the same day I wore this outfit, I was able to get my hair done through Lookbooker and decided to get schoolgirl style braids to match my schoolgirl inspired outfit. So of course I had to snap some more photos of myself in these adorable braids. Luckily there was a white screen set-up at ShopStyle Social House that was just perfect for outfit photos. Now if only I had this set-up at home and could get my hair done everyday!
