I’ve been wanting to recreate this Carrie Bradshaw look for a while now, but wanted to find the right location for it to imitate Carrie’s balcony setting. I originally had the Belvedere Castle in Central Park in mind, but it doesn’t open until 10AM on the weekends and I was worried about the crowds. So I settled on the High Line, which I figured would not be crowded at 7:45AM on a weekday. I found a nice railing area that somewhat looks like Carrie’s Parisian balcony, but this is my New York take on Parisian style, with Chelsea buildings in the background rather than the Eiffel Tower. It’s basically the same, right?!
Carrie Bradshaw Style Black and White Outfit: Key Elements
The Black and White Striped Sweater: I love Carrie’s sweater with the huge floral design, but I could not find anything close to that. So I opted for a more modern take with a cropped sweater that has a trendy lace-up detail instead. I think it’s actually better suited for the New York setting, while Carrie’s sweater is more on the romantic Parisian side.
The Black and White Striped Skirt: For a more feminine take on Carrie’s pencil style skit, I chose a fit and flare style instead that goes perfectly with a cropped top. This skirt from Gamiss is only $15 and is surprisingly high quality and looks expensive. It has a great voluminous shape and I always get compliments when I wear it.
The Accessories: To make this outfit my own and add some color, I went with the cutest pair of Charming Charlie bauble earrings. These are the perfect pop of color for a black and white outfit, and they just make me so happy when wearing them. I also went with wine red lace-up heels and a black and white plaid bag for a sophisticated touch.
I completed the outfit with a rose gold bangle from Motif, which actually has a special significance behind it in supporting a program that helps to educate and empower women. 30% of the proceeds are donated to the Endometriosis Coalition to help raise awareness and research, as the disease affects 1 in 10 women and often goes undiagnosed. To go with the bracelet, I chose delicate rings for a feminine touch. I really love the overall effect of this look – the key when styling a black and white outfit is to choose accessories that pop and add dimension and color.
